Experience Aristos 2012 – The Summer Training Project Contest

The first time i checked about ARISTOS competition - a blind review process selection, I was convinced to participate in this to see if i be further selected for this event. Well, ARISTOS is a National Level Summer internship project contest organized each year by NIILM-CMS at the institute itself.
http://www.niilm-cms.edu.in/aristos/aristos.aspx

I submitted the synopsis of my summer project that i had proudly implemented at BMW Plant. And after some days i got a mail from NIILM stating that i was shortlisted for the further rounds. Two things that motivated me to consider the competition were (not only Rs. 10,000 prize) the selection list of around 50 students including b-schools such as IIM(L), Jamnalal Bajaj, KJSIMSR, TAPMI, IMT,SIBM, IRMA, TISS, NITIE,  BIM, WE School etc; and the procedure for further rounds of competition.

The first round was as per different streams (HR, Marketing, Finance etc) and the panel was consisted of the professors of the institute. The best project with highest marks from each stream would go to the final round to present in front of the Industry judges. I was not only to be the best in my H.R area but among everyone there to prove that i really had the best project.

I decided to participate in the competition as i wanted to increase my confidence level for my placements ahead and to learn from other students' projects too.

AT NIILM-CMS

I observed in my HR stream (The 1st round) the projects made by other students were very technical; I mean they were not as employee involving as my project was. The confident speaks and it proved at my turn. I completed my presentation very confidently with focus on how my project is different and helpful for the organization and one of the panel members did complement me by saying - "Nice Presentation Vinod!"

AFTER 1st Round

I was sure that i had a good chance to move to the final round since one of the friend participants in my group was constantly telling me that "you will surely be selected". Besides, The student coordinator of NIILM-CMS was also telling me the same frequently. Law of attraction worked and when my name was announced for the final round i was happy that my presentation communicated the intent of my project.

H.R as LAST?

5 Students were selected for the final round and the order of selection was such that being an H.R, my turn was at the last. It is not like i do not have patience but I was contemplating that "why H.R people can not come at first before marketing or finance guys?"

Anyhow this has helped me as i started my presentation with my thought - "Every project and strategy made by company is good but it becomes the best only when employees are felt as employees". I think this start made everyone to listen to me for the next 15min.

First time i delivered a presentation to such a large crowd having all the faculty members, Industry Judges with such a great experience and students all around. That made me little scary but then i talked to myself - "when I could deliver the best in front of the top management of BMW then why to afraid now!" and That gave me a great confidence to proceed.

QUESTIONS BY JUDGES

A judge from ALSTOM appreciated my presentation - "Your project is very different where you involved employees in brainstorm workshops for post satisfaction survey. This kind of bottom-up approach is not implemented in organizations"

I felt like i won the prize of my contribution as such a good feedback given to me. Fortunately, all 3 judges asked me very beautiful questions such as

1. What is human resource meant to me?

I was so happy that finally i can express my love for H.R there and i expressed - it is not a resource but the asset for any organization which can result in building org. capabilities and so on...

2. Implementation of my proposed action plan?

My project was itself in implementation form so i shared about the same

3. Logic on Nomination of employees for brainstorm workshops of my project

I explained it with my logic of such process that i designed and implemented at BMW.

RESULT

I got the first prize overall in the competition and this was something that i was so amazed to see. It was not because i was not confident but i always had this assumption that H.R projects are not well appreciated by the industry in front of marketing, finance and strategy projects. But the judges made me proud of being an H.R and better than marketing and finance guys.

SO, WHAT FOR ME?

1. Apart from cash prize and certificate (though they will send me it again with right spelling of my name), I got the summer experience of other guys there. A wonderful learning for me.

2. Facing a big crowd gave me confidence which i am sure would help me in more achievements.

3. Confirmation from the judges that H.R is not more below others.

Overall, i made such a good friends, NIILM-CMS students are so friendly. All congratulated me so friendly that i would always keep it in my sweet memories. While leaving from the event, I shared my views with the judge from ALSTOM that HR is not given so importance as marketing or finance; he shared his views with me and also advised me on my further career as an HR manager.

I thank you NIILM-CMS , IMI DELHI, BMW PLANT and everyone for such a great experience :) My efforts are incomplete without thanking to my IMI mentor Prof. Mamta Mohapatra and my BMW mentor cum role model Mr. Subash Ganpathy and Govardhanan sir.

Ye Dil Maange MORE..re: Summer Experience of IMI Delhi Student

Being in H.R professional and having 3 years of working experience in Project Management Operations, Summer Internship was always very exciting to me to prove myself again in my dream H.R projects. The dreams became more exciting when BMW came to my campus and shortlisted me as one among toppers of my HR class.

What is this internship experience? I define it as Ye Dil Maange MORE..re.. (Mapping of receptions and expectations & re-expectations). As soon as BMW came to my IMI Delhi campus & selected me for internship, my expectations were on the peak of visualising 6-sigman curve.

I am in love with “Delhi” city being here since my birth. My BMW journey started on April, 2012 to a project-cum-vacation from MBA life to Chennai and I was happy like I was flying to Singapore for 2 months.

My first day realised me that my so called strategic learned H.R live projects & studies are unfit to manufacturing setup. Being optimist, I took it opportunity to grab full hand experience as I would never again experience such setup, but was doubtful on my R.O.I. (Return on internship). That made me serious recalling some of the seniors whom I had interacted before who suggested me that it is not an organization where interns are given strategic projects. “The first day made me feel- Am I into my Singapore really?”

My Gen. Manager (HR), who is even now a very good mentor cum guide to me, invited me to have discussion 2nd day of my internship. I was bit excited that I will give my project proposals; nonetheless that project was not even started due to a different requirements. “Requirement Analysis” was my very first learning there. He informed me that next day there was H.R team brainstorm meeting at Hyatt and I was invited to participate in that using my HR learned concepts. I saw him brainstorming with managers & prepared and analysed Minute of Meeting for them. The first receivable to me was this add-on “Brainstorm Facilitator” skill on my Linkedin profile. But How?

My summer internship project was based on immediate requirement of BMW to follow up with employee satisfaction survey results. I implemented the same brainstorm concept and amazed the top management with the analysis. Besides, I did a benchmarking research involving workers and lastly suggested canteen management using 6-sigma effective way.

While my other friends were interning at RPG, Nestle, HUL, GE etc where the Summer Internship process was all defined with clear guidelines & BMW gave me timely perception as I was not an intern but an employee. They involved me with their existing problems in H.R areas and smartly I converted most of them in my internship projects. The management was happier than me as they got their projects done and at the same time I was presenting them benchmarked analysis.

“Bad” was sometimes when I used to be involved in manual work of feeding data in excel and sometimes tight security in BMW plant. But later I realized, this is even expected from HR managers there so in a way I was involving with them.

My first hand experience was definitely not good but a wonderful “very good,” not only because of project implementations and regular appreciations, but also because of the association with workforce, rather employees out there. I have respect to them for their participation in my brainstorm workshops and research surveys.

Would I be more excited in organization with defined internship projects? I am sure, “NO.” I was very much known to “Service Industry” but this manufacturing set up with my own way of handling projects and weekly feedback to top management was R.O.I for my internship efforts. Equation of expectations and reception in my case was more inclined towards right hand side.

I learnt even simple administrative H.R setup where involving employees in decision making (my brainstorm NOVA project) was a way ahead of this strategic HR Consultancy world. I realized – “My dream was more to implement the HR practices” and that what I did during my 2 months tenure. Seeing respect for H.R manager there and how they were so much responsible for employees, I am proud to say that I am also an H.R manager.

Someone may call these below point as promotion, but I call it Employer Branding which exists only when there is a solid base to do “gaga about it”. A thing that I will always cherish is – “the people” there. I was amazed when people from Purchase team treated me as their friend and involved me in parties. I was happy when my mentor used to motivate me with such great feedback. I was lucky when plant workforce used to take me seriously. Having attended launch of BMW new 3 series & interaction with M.D, I really miss BMW and proudly say it as Best Summer Internship experience I have had.

Time For "Pyar Ki Pungi" - Next in style phrase?

Yesterday, I met a friend, working as an operations manager in a very famous organization and his ringtone “Naye zamane ki Laila hoon main, Teri pungi baja ke rahungi”…suddenly caught my attention to PUNGI. One thing that often I realize now a days during my MBA life-cycle is "Jo Dikhta Hai, Wahi Bikta Hai"... shows how important it is today to make yourself attractive enough to leave a catchy impression.

Well, the time is now for "Pyar ki Pungi", the latest item song from Saif's spy thriller Agent Vinod, after myriad of sheela, munni and jalebi. Is it worth recognized it – “an item song?” It is making its way ahead all charts; thanks to its comic, cheeky and catchy tone.

In research methods and methodology we often practice - Content Analysis (Ref: Content Analysis by Roberto P. Franzosi). "What is it for pyar ki pungi?" - Lyrics, here, makes the important impression management. It is good a strategy to attract youngsters with choice of words like “O meri jaan o meri jaan, Mere ko majnu bana kar” , “Auron pe gaalon pe pappi, Mere hi gaalon pe chaante” , and all similar stuff. Word count of “Pungi” and “Meri Jaan” matches; needless to say what does it mean for attracting youngsters.

Word counts can be of underlying meaning structures and syntax can have far more profound effects on meaning. Local touch to song, normal way of addressing girl friends by young generation and active form of sentencing enrich its attractiveness. Referential content analysis – is better suited to explain this, as it is used in research when the task is to ascertain how an existing phenomenon is portrayed.

Moving further from the tool of quantitative analysis of textual material, here comes - the differentiation strategy of catching eye from uttermost audience .But the question arises, “What makes it different?” The differentiation - when all among one’s competitors are duplicating the process in fraction of seconds. After all we all would wonder what exactly this pungi is.

Youtube has count of more than 10 Lakh views of the same in the very starting like a viral marketing practise. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38JoxhDDZ0A) It has created mass hysteria as soon as it is released. This kind of new generation marketing makes Cine marketing definition as “Consumer Intense And Novel Engagement Marketing” indeed. Consumers today relate with brands in essentially innovative ways, often through communication that is beyond traditional approach.

Even after seeing the video on youtube, such MIKA SINGH way of impression would leave many of us to surely see this movie with popcorn and friends.

IMI Delhi Engagement - One example

You spend first 3 trimesters ( 9 months) with a same teacher during 3 courses in your first year and at the time of last session, the teacher leaves you with a remark

" It is not easy for a mother to move on ..after being so closed for 9 months (meaning of which only a mother can tell) ...."

Needless to say - with tears and emotional see ya note.....

This is what makes me proud of saying - I am I :)

How my Legal Framework & Ethics courses earned me a Merchandise?

Today morning , Facebook page of my Fav. ICICI Bank posted...

I had to make my assignments but thought to enjoy this discount and spend some 3 hours with a friend , so I went ahead to book tickets.

Luckily got good Gold seats with great discounted price but then i realized where is that option of 10% discount of food and beverages? well this option was not there while booking the tickets.

If i was not into my 3rd trimester of MBA(HR), i would have let it gone like most of us usually do. But what is that in this 3rd trimester that made me writing this blog and that too at that time when i need to ready up?

Well, it is Legal framework and Ethical issues in H.R courses that suddenly prompted in my mind. 1 advantage of doing MBA is you can not leave even a single place where you can not apply your Management concepts.

I immediately called there management team describing them the situation and they described me see, "this option is not valid in delhi" . Before he could have said anything, i had taken  screen shots of terms & conditions and offers and very beautifully marked them an email stating, "..... It  is clearly a case of FRAUD / WRONG Communication. Being a student of H.R, I must say, this is clearly unethical and portraits  cheating and Miscommunication case  in lieu of promotions and can be brought to our LAW SYSTEM."

Soon after my mail, i got apology revert and a phone call from concerned manager. I gave him some gayan on ETHICAL and LEGAL issues in communication. He offered me a merchandise and requested me to provide him my address.

Revert to my mail, "......Same shall be updated in our communication to avoid confusion for customers who are trying to book for the same in locations where online bookings are not available currently. We shall be soon dispatching a merchandise to you ."

Question that comes to my mind now is - " Providing Merchandise is again Un(Ethical) practice or simply a token of Apology?"

or infact "accepting merchandise" in lieu of this communication....

Ek Ruka Hua Faisla - This is not the science, where everything is certain!

Recently out Professor provided us a wonderful opportunity to explore the practical applications of Team and group behaviour aspects..

This movie depicts a story having a jury consisted of 12 members from diversified background. Jury is given a responsibility of discussing about a boy who is blamed as murder of his father. Out of these 12 jury members, 11 members are on one side of the decision ‘blaming the boy to be a murderer’ and one member on the other side contemplating- “there is no significant proof against the victim”

The case against the boy, in starting, looks irrefutable and indomitable, as there is a witness in the form of an old man who claims to have heard the incident and another woman who claims to have seen the actual act of stabbing. Plus there is the murder weapon - a knife - that was found at the crime scene, seemingly implicating the boy without any fragment of doubt. But all is not what it seems like.

This “Mujhe kuch pata nahi lekin……Maan lijiye ham galat hue to” attitude of this one person begins the discussion forward for bringing in the common consent.

Since the jurors have no link with anybody and anything involved in the case, they are called on for the verdict on the grounds. They are instructed to remain in an enclosed room until they reach on a consent- deciding if the accused boy is guilty or not.

I strongly recommend all to watch this movie keeping in mind

Reference to the role of group processes and process facilitation in making team an effective medium of change: Overall we can first realize after seeing the movie that the following points were illustrated

1.      Planning of strategy by the initiator about case discussion

2.       Implementing the strategy by the person who was handling and controlling G.D

3.      Dissatisfaction of one person leads him to convince the other team

·         Effective medium of bringing change in people mindset – Give chance to all and introspect all the reflections, positive conflict environment, having faith in team, learn from others and communicate in their terms, share other people’s experiences- concerns, difficulties and hopes

·         The lead character is under significant pressure from his fellow jurors, but he is determined to explore all of the evidence before he reaches a conclusion. It shows how the courage of convictions can make one win the odds

·         Timely decisions - Important decisions should be given time - In the movie, a boy’s life is in the balance – if found guilty, he will be executed. Lead character wants to talk things through, not to rush to a snap

·         Composure, Clarity and Focus approach even in the midst of all of the emotions can give rise to the rationale decision making skills

·         Art of influencing others - Protagonist builds alliances – often by the force of his arguments, sometimes by listening to the others

·         Benefit of accepting uncertainty - I appreciate most the way he (lead character) acknowledges his own uncertainty. He can’t be sure if the boy is guilty or not, he demonstrates his principled approach, but not a dogmatic one

·         As a result, they achieved a transition from communication to conflict management despite of different people, different background, different profession, Different age group and most importantly different mindsets

·         I learnt building good relationships can be a good strategy before conflict occurs. We should respect individuals and respect differences for a win-win situation

·         It is very important for a leader to LISTEN. Unless one will not listen to other, it is difficult to understand the theme of the going discussion. “Jaisa Desh, Waisa bhais” it is important to adapt to different situations as per the people around.

·         Focus should always be on solving problem and not people. Else one can just be pankaj Kapoor personality in real life.

·         Many a times, it is better to think about TODAY, Present, here and now. It saves on time and stays us focus for achieving the results.

Cine-marketing like Rockstar - What is the purpose after-all ?

Seeing the current trend, Cine-Marketing definition may easily be related to Consumer Intense and Novel Engagement Marketing. Consumers today relate with brands in essentially innovative ways, often through communication channels that are beyond traditional product/service providers’ control. This article would revolve around the digitalization and marketing in context to cine-Business.

As with most of the business, during the early PLC phase, there is an enormous need of promotions and advertisement campaigns even beyond the expense limit. In case of marketing of movies, it is more reasonable as PLC becomes Movie Release-to-Revenue Cycle, and hence increasing revenues as early as possible turn out to be must need for creating buzz in the market. Conventionally, the promotions and advertising used to be handled by the distributors and exhibitors only but with the digitalization, the need to marketing has been extensively realized.

The golden strategies of promotions including but not restricted to TV, Radio, Print, Live-shows, Theatres & Shopping Malls, Internet, do sufficiently good to achieving the objective of increasing revenue. But the question arises –“What makes it different?” The differentiation - when all among one’s competitors are duplicating the process in fraction of seconds. Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar (Starring- Ranbir Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri) – A perfect example of Cine-marketing describes how marketing should not be restricted only to promotions but must be extended to building relationships. The concept of creative strategies of marketing makes a film rightly targeted to its audience. Soon after releasing website, rockstar joined facebook. Well, it had to come on facebook because of its targeted audience residing there.

Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/rockstarthefilm) first started talking about Ranbir to increase the like count on the page, seeing Ranbir’s fan-following on internet. I call it perfect marketing as the consumer engagement was kept on building by the series of uploaded pictures and corresponding likes & comments. The page started with status like – “Amazing guys....We have reached the 1000 landmark....we are awaiting this movie.....Cummon people spread the word....there are still many Ranbir Kapoor and Rockstar fans....who are unaware of the movie ....suggest to your friends....soon we will hear out from Ranbir Kapoor himself...stay tuned for more ROCKSTAR updates!” Besides, the rockstar team was doing many other things like meeting fans in cities, coming to live shows, etc and finally integrating all the events at social networking sites.

The page also talked about story of the movie in short statements and created the buzz asking audience about their expectations and queries on story lines. It started sharing original video links on the page and made fans felt valued. On 20 September, 2011, it posted – “Hey DELHI walooo..Imtiaz ali meets Facebook Fans in Waves cafe at Great Indian Mall...in 1hour :-)...So...how many coming??” And the discussion carried on with series of the movie yatra. What could be better strategy of marketing than this?

Surely not a viral culprit as Ra.One - 52 crore being spent for promotion but apart from the promotion nothing has been done right by the film makers. To continue with the Differentiation, it came up with rockstar diary, where movie team goes to different locations and captures the moments for its audience. With one month before the launch of the movie, they started spending on various competitions - participating people in different quizzes, making them follow twitter page, selecting random fans for free cds etc. As a result, it shares today more than 4, 00,000 fans on facebook and equally engaged other social media consumers, including twitter.

The recommendation is not only social marketing but is capturing your targeted audience. When it caters to Youth, the choice of facebook engagement seems apt. Decision of spending unnecessary huge amount on promotions without having consumer-connection may work, but spending comparatively less and letting your audience decide is a better way ahead. Be it viral, event / sponsored or media marketing, cinema requires equal, rather more of meaningful marketing. This kind of CINE- marketing refers not only to the top-line but also to the bottom-line of the production business.

Desi Boyz Show How To M&A

Below is the article that i recently checked on ET 500 THE BIG LEAP by Kiran Somvanshi. A very crisp article showing how our Desi Boys are playing their M&A Impression management to this world.

Local FLAVOUR - Practices followed by Indian Cos in acquisitions

  1. Non-interference in day-to-day management
  2. Controlling costs by plugging leakages
  3. Using the Indian IT advantage
  4. Adoptation of homegrown practices or technologies
  5. Seeking the right fir in target companines
  6. Learn as well as teach approach

< Article from ET >
Respect for local talent and systems while pushing through best practices goes a long way in not only winning over management, but also the employees. And that is not the only lesson that India Inc has to offer on managing foreign acquisitions.

The last decade saw many Indian companies take their growth plans beyond India. Most of them have been successful in steering their foreign acquisitions — either bringing them back from the brink of bankruptcy or improving their profitability or milking their growth potential. Doing business in a diverse market like India has stood them in good stead, apparently.

A study of these acquisitions reveals some common practices followed by most Indian companies.
The most striking among them is non-interference in the day-to-day management of the acquired entity.Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL), the FMCG company with the highest number of overseas acquisitions in its sector, has been following this strategy for its overseas expansions. "Local knowledge and talent is extremely valuable to us. We believe in strengthening the existing management team by underpinning them with key functions," said Shashank Sinha, president, international business, GCPL.

United Phosphorus, too, shares the strategy. "When we acquire a company, whether it is in France, Holland or Italy, we do not disturb the operations team apart from visits by experts from India to try to sort out problems and address requirements of the company," the company's spokesperson said in an email reply.

Another sign of non-interference is retaining the name of the acquired company. Under Godrej, Indonesia's Megasari and Rapidol of South Africa continue to function under their old names. The only aberration is Godrej Argentina, a name change that came about when the management of Argentina's Issue group insisted on close identification after being acquired by Godrej.
"If the management is doing a good job, it should be encouraged to continue," said Sunil Duggal, CEO ofDabur India. In the company's US acquisition — Namaste Group, the promoter continues to run the company as its CEO.

Controlling costs is another feature of Indian acquisitions. Most Indian companies are good at plugging cost leakages and zeroing in on areas where there is scope for improving efficiency. Margins of Israeli companyTaro have gone up since Sun Pharma acquired a controlling stake in it in September last year as Sun helped improve its productivity, sales and marketing practices.

Hindalco's turnaround of Novelis in September last year came about through cost cutting and restructuring. In the words of chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, "Novelis is today a leaner and more nimble entity."
"Wipro works on a detailed process plan, towards integration," said Jatin Dalal, CFO of the company's IT operations. It acquired mPower in 2006 and went on to improve its process efficiency, support function processes such as expenses reimbursement and administration as well as procurement efficiency, Dalal added.

However, while controlling costs, care is taken to retain functions that are important for the company's growth. After acquiring large seeds company Advanta, United Phosphorus lent support to the company's R&D operations, the budget for which had been curtailed by Advanta.

Most Indian companies use the availability of low-cost information technology (IT) in India to their advantage. "We upgrade or invest in the backbone of the business," said GCPL's Sinha. This involves investing in enterprise resource planning systems to integrate the international geographies. Dabur has outsourced the IT networks of its overseas acquisitions to India, making it the hub for IT solutions for the consolidated entity.

Adoption of homegrown practices or technologies is another common feature of Indian acquisitions. A good example is Bharti Airtel. While Bharti typically operates at a margin before depreciation of 33-36%, its African business has an operating margin below 30%. To improve this, Bharti is currently implementing its outsourcing strategy in the African operations with a focus on revenue leadership. Operating margin of its African operations has improved by 270 basis points (bps) to 26.7% in the last three quarters.

Another classic example is that of Sun Pharma's acquisition of US-based Caraco. After the acquisition, generic products were developed in India and transferred to Caraco, which had no such capability. So in a way, an Indian company was transferring technology to a US company, completely reverse of what is usually seen.

Seeking the right fit is another area where Indian acquirers do their fair bit of homework. Knowing what you are, and accordingly finding the right targets is one of the basic tenets of successful acquisitions. With over 15 acquisitions in the last seven years, Wipro is a strong case in point here. Its target company is typically small and suffers from under investment and inadequate automation needs. Wipro benefits the acquired player with a larger scale of operations, improvement in efficiency and by associating it with Wipro's brand.
"We are not turnaround specialists, said Sinha about GCPL. We pick up small local businesses with strong and profitable companies with good management, he added.

International Management Institute - I-Score Card (Balance Scorecard)

Any HR manager will agree that – “Key Performance Indicators are always taken in context to Multiple Dimensions.”

Balance Score Card term seems very mundane to some people and very technical to many, But IMI way to handle the scorecard is bit different.

It provides sufficient Learning and Growth opportunity for any individual to perform out of her comfortable areas. It further gives enough assessment to assessors in form of a 360 degree view. Be it any stakeholder. I personally , not just because of being IMI student , believe that this simple looking perspective is very beautifully mapped to individual profile position.

A small example – Let us say, If there is clarity / incentive to perform something, She will put her efforts in her interested development area. But how this has been happening usually ? I personally observed, many a students have a lot of capabilities but there is something that resist them to come out. What ? A lot of GYAN has been given in this context of O.B by many fantastic authors.

IMI’s Score card ( as per me ) acts as facilitation than measurement. It is not only being a performance measurement but Learning tool.

I must quote here - “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

Rockstar is Class Apart

Rock based movies are revered and admired in Hollywood, but Bollywood hasn't been too kind to this genre.

Imtiaz Ali has always managed to strike the right balance between the hoi polloi and the gentry. Movies like JAB WE MET and LOVE AAJKAL are proof that the enormously talented raconteur won't attempt a film if he's not fully convinced about it. Known for his imaginative and inventive take on love stories, Imtiaz takes up yet another challenge with ROCKSTAR. The story of a rebellious singer/musician, it traces his journey of love, anguish, ego, trouble, sorrow and devastation. A difficult path to tread, no doubt, but Imtiaz could be a game changer, if the film strikes a chord. Alas!

"What you take back from Rockstar are some terrific moments, a bravura performance (Ranbir Kapoor is a class apart!)and of course, AR Rahman's musical score. Wish one could carry the entire film back in our hearts!," feels Adarsh.

Ranbir has put a lot of efforts to look like a real ROCKSTAR and is visible !

Ranbir as rockstar

On the whole, Rockstar might not live up to the confidence and expectations from the otherwise very skilled and accomplished film-maker Imtiaz Ali. However, the silver lining or the comforting prospect is the virtuoso performance by Ranbir Kapoor and the captivating score by AR Rahman, which justify that one extra star

If you are not mundane movie lover, Do watch and try yourself.
I say- This  is a class apart !

Rocket Singh - Ranbir's Vision and management

Tonight, I am writing about one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. Not because I appreciate the way Ranbir kapoor has been greatly performing, but here i am writing for some different purpose.

I still remember, that Friday, I lied my boss that I was unwell , and alternatively went for the first day first show and forced my mom to company  me to see the new role of an actor whom you would praise. Sorry to my boss first of all :D  ( as this movie provided great lessons on management.)

Ranbir as Harprit plays role of a B.Com graduate who has a VISION, vision to make it large; BIG LARGE in sales. He joins the corporate as he wants to become SALESMAN, full of honesty and integrity, yes! That is why even having about 35% of marks; he is SALESMAN of the year. He joins as a trainee in a company that sells computers but goofs up in an early deal that invites him abuse by bosses and ridicule by colleagues. Relegated to his desk, Harpreet is restricted from going on field and realizes that his ideologies are not in sync with the so-called professionals of today.

This is where he will find out that honesty is NOT the best policy; will be treated as a 'Joker Sardar'; be shunned and mocked by his superiors and colleagues alike. His overtures to make a name for himself will compel him to partner with four other employees from the firm, namely Girish Reddy, Koena Shaikh, Chhotelal Mishra, and Nitin Rathore, leading to the creation of a fictitious organization - 'Rocket Sales Corporation'.

Soon he thinks of a way to get even with his boss Puri (Manish Chaudhary) and starts his own secret sales and service agency while continuing to work in his existing company.

"Business kuch nahin hota hai , hote ha sirf log , customer . Log khush honge toh figures apne aap badhenge."

"Risks to spiderman bhi leta hai....main toh sirf ek salesman hoon!!!"

“Tum main upar jaane wali quality hai, lekin tum main neeche jaane wali quality bhi hai”

"Customer ke naam mein hi likha hota hai 'mar'"

“jab paseena khoon se milta hai, daftar palang ban jaata hai, bachche bhul jaate hain; tab ja ke banti hai yeh COMPANY , Dhanda"

Accidently, today I had exam of marketing BRANDING and I can relate my fav. movie -
Branding is not just a logo. So in the movie, Rocket Sales Corporation reaches great heights with its good pricing and unique service offerings and the AYS computers now take over the company and make it AYS Rocket Sales Corporation putting the AYS badge on the logo. But AYS being a bigger and bloated company fails to deliver on customer expectations of the Rocket Sales Corporation and sales figures start to come down. When take over another firm and its brand, it is important to inherit its philosophy and culture and see how you can make the most out of it.

Rocket Sales Corporation is based on

Rule 1 : We never lie to clients. No matter we lose order, let the order go but never lose client's faith

Rule 2 : We believe in services more than sales because sales goes to only that company which offer services.

Rule 3 : We don't give bribe if client ask for it, we don't get such orders.

Rule 4 : We do not promise in false delivery and what date we promised, we deliver by the same date.

Rule 5 : We are always available for client, days and nights.

LESSONS

The first real lesson the movie gives is, sales should be about people and not numbers; numbers must always follow people

Take Risks in life: “Even Spiderman needs to take risks, we are just HUMANS”

To be an ENTERPRENEUR, one doesn’t need to invent anything, just do things differently

Sales, Services and Supports are the three pillars of a successful business

Treat everyone with respect and have more partners in a company than more number of employees. Rocket Singh addresses one of the key problems faced by any large organization – of how to treat employees like co-owners.

Don’t sell to client what you have, arrange everything what client needs

Never lose hope. Continue to struggle, there will be lots of small gains and big losses on the way, but don’t miss the target.

Winning is not something but it is everything. History only remembers the winners not the runner up

Dishonestly BE HONEST: As a SALESMAN, never enter your correct name and address in the entrance register :p

Finally, one of the more personal lessons that one can learn from this film is that it not only pays to be honest, simple and truthful in the long term, but that this can also help you to improve your public image – and even help you ‘get the girl’ in the end!

Atif's kinara in coke studio

I extol Atif Aslam & Coke Studio which made Kinara (Coke Studio, Ep 2, Harmony) sung by Atif Aslam & Riaz Ali Khan

Atif has a great fan following , yet , he is too down to earth. See the Story behind this song as

He says - Neither i know singing , nor i learnt , i am here to learn from you. The concept was to fit a vocal part Man-Kuntun Mulla of Riaz Ali Khan, however he adds , my song is needed to be fit.

I really appreciate this kind of attitude. It makes his performance so lively and yes, a heart-driven ambiance. The song starts from Atif Aslam's version of Kinara and it sounds pretty much the same with improvised music making it a worth listen. But what amused me the most was the change in lyrics as the song progressed.

The real inspiration comes from a song from an old pakistani urdu 'Jinna De Raati Yaar Wichrae' from movie 'Fareeb'. It was hard to believe such a beautiful composition from such a different song.

The real differentiation is today's word is being true and that is depicted from atif's performance. His molding style makes his composition unique.

If you see the video, you realize, unknowingly he makes moves like shaking his heads. What does it mean here? Well, he is lost in his performance , that many a times, it gives passion to the music.

A lot more to learn from this chap. Not only this but the song itself conveys much more.

Life is very different and take it as dream. Live every moment. Sing the same for your life !

Nike - A connected vision behind the victory

I have started recently a study for my organizational design theory subject and for the project work i have chosen "NIKE" just like to do it !

Though i have a lot more to study on this organization and i will surely reconnect with some of the practical strategies, however, there is something i would love to extol in the beginning.

In very few words, the organization started with understanding of being connected with its stakeholders. It is this strategy that made it  "just do it !" Many a times, we assume, vision and mission is just something to talk in books, but when an organization connects it in every action it takes (here, makes) , the results become visible.

You develop an idea and you do every action around the same , Or simply do but differ from the central theme. Choice is yours and so are the results.

Will soon discuss the fine details of the learning.

Politic myopia and Anna

With his recent announcements, about supporting one political formation or the other, many are wondering if Anna Hazare is joining politics. Anna Hazare, India’s reincarnated ‘Gandhi‘ has assured his followers that he is not joining politics, but people are not ready to believe it.
“Absolutely not. I am taking extreme care to keep the anti-corruption movement free of politics. There is absolutely no such possibility”, he said while talking to the media. Hazare re-assured, “Our movement has nothing to do with RSS or VHP. All this is being talked to mislead the people.”

Seeing the cause and not just the vocals is more that matter to me and i hope so does to all ! Anna wants people to be aware about voting. Is that wrong?

Anna wants every one to vote. Isn't it great ?

But , Anna wants people not to vote a corrupt government. That creates a trouble. At least in media ! Though , i am not a believer of any single party , yet is there any need to connect it with Anna and politics?

A very positive cause is being taken totally in very narrow direction. It is nothing but a politic myopia. Myopia refers to the "short-sightedness", a refractive defect of the eye. The condition turns to be like instead of focusing on the retina, the light that enters, remains in front of the retina. With lack of focus on retina, it affects the outcome. Hence, the image becomes out of focus while looking at a distant object but in focus while looking at a close object.

Yes, Politics is seen in a very negative connotation in our country but this myopia is doing nothing great to us at the same time. Let us try to build our vindication first by seeing the cause and what all are the viable recommendations to that.

For me, I support the cause because i need a triggered change. Even if Anna goes against any PARTY , that is because PARTY is representing corruption ( as per the stats).

Anna started with corruption and not leading against any PARTY is surely a concern but till the time Anna joins any PARTY, i am not in favor of this mismatch.

Training Need Analysis

I wonder today when was it first time when i ever realized the importance of this training.

Oh yes !

Who gives training to a child to suck the thumb?

Who gives training to a kid to demand the mom for the milk with unspoken words?

and it goes on.......

I know only basic concepts and so do i practice them. Life is a lot to learn from the above examples.Be it management, engineering or any other stream , no one can ever devalue the concept of this blend of Learning.

Without going into Theory lectures, It is important to understand that when one is responsible for one's needs , the analysis itself gets linked to the goal.

I hope the idea gets clear somehow. Start to Learn yourself and success is next standing to you !!
