Time For "Pyar Ki Pungi" - Next in style phrase?

Yesterday, I met a friend, working as an operations manager in a very famous organization and his ringtone “Naye zamane ki Laila hoon main, Teri pungi baja ke rahungi”…suddenly caught my attention to PUNGI. One thing that often I realize now a days during my MBA life-cycle is "Jo Dikhta Hai, Wahi Bikta Hai"... shows how important it is today to make yourself attractive enough to leave a catchy impression.

Well, the time is now for "Pyar ki Pungi", the latest item song from Saif's spy thriller Agent Vinod, after myriad of sheela, munni and jalebi. Is it worth recognized it – “an item song?” It is making its way ahead all charts; thanks to its comic, cheeky and catchy tone.

In research methods and methodology we often practice - Content Analysis (Ref: Content Analysis by Roberto P. Franzosi). "What is it for pyar ki pungi?" - Lyrics, here, makes the important impression management. It is good a strategy to attract youngsters with choice of words like “O meri jaan o meri jaan, Mere ko majnu bana kar” , “Auron pe gaalon pe pappi, Mere hi gaalon pe chaante” , and all similar stuff. Word count of “Pungi” and “Meri Jaan” matches; needless to say what does it mean for attracting youngsters.

Word counts can be of underlying meaning structures and syntax can have far more profound effects on meaning. Local touch to song, normal way of addressing girl friends by young generation and active form of sentencing enrich its attractiveness. Referential content analysis – is better suited to explain this, as it is used in research when the task is to ascertain how an existing phenomenon is portrayed.

Moving further from the tool of quantitative analysis of textual material, here comes - the differentiation strategy of catching eye from uttermost audience .But the question arises, “What makes it different?” The differentiation - when all among one’s competitors are duplicating the process in fraction of seconds. After all we all would wonder what exactly this pungi is.

Youtube has count of more than 10 Lakh views of the same in the very starting like a viral marketing practise. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38JoxhDDZ0A) It has created mass hysteria as soon as it is released. This kind of new generation marketing makes Cine marketing definition as “Consumer Intense And Novel Engagement Marketing” indeed. Consumers today relate with brands in essentially innovative ways, often through communication that is beyond traditional approach.

Even after seeing the video on youtube, such MIKA SINGH way of impression would leave many of us to surely see this movie with popcorn and friends.

IMI Delhi Engagement - One example

You spend first 3 trimesters ( 9 months) with a same teacher during 3 courses in your first year and at the time of last session, the teacher leaves you with a remark

" It is not easy for a mother to move on ..after being so closed for 9 months (meaning of which only a mother can tell) ...."

Needless to say - with tears and emotional see ya note.....

This is what makes me proud of saying - I am I :)

How my Legal Framework & Ethics courses earned me a Merchandise?

Today morning , Facebook page of my Fav. ICICI Bank posted...

I had to make my assignments but thought to enjoy this discount and spend some 3 hours with a friend , so I went ahead to book tickets.

Luckily got good Gold seats with great discounted price but then i realized where is that option of 10% discount of food and beverages? well this option was not there while booking the tickets.

If i was not into my 3rd trimester of MBA(HR), i would have let it gone like most of us usually do. But what is that in this 3rd trimester that made me writing this blog and that too at that time when i need to ready up?

Well, it is Legal framework and Ethical issues in H.R courses that suddenly prompted in my mind. 1 advantage of doing MBA is you can not leave even a single place where you can not apply your Management concepts.

I immediately called there management team describing them the situation and they described me see, "this option is not valid in delhi" . Before he could have said anything, i had taken  screen shots of terms & conditions and offers and very beautifully marked them an email stating, "..... It  is clearly a case of FRAUD / WRONG Communication. Being a student of H.R, I must say, this is clearly unethical and portraits  cheating and Miscommunication case  in lieu of promotions and can be brought to our LAW SYSTEM."

Soon after my mail, i got apology revert and a phone call from concerned manager. I gave him some gayan on ETHICAL and LEGAL issues in communication. He offered me a merchandise and requested me to provide him my address.

Revert to my mail, "......Same shall be updated in our communication to avoid confusion for customers who are trying to book for the same in locations where online bookings are not available currently. We shall be soon dispatching a merchandise to you ."

Question that comes to my mind now is - " Providing Merchandise is again Un(Ethical) practice or simply a token of Apology?"

or infact "accepting merchandise" in lieu of this communication....

Ek Ruka Hua Faisla - This is not the science, where everything is certain!

Recently out Professor provided us a wonderful opportunity to explore the practical applications of Team and group behaviour aspects..

This movie depicts a story having a jury consisted of 12 members from diversified background. Jury is given a responsibility of discussing about a boy who is blamed as murder of his father. Out of these 12 jury members, 11 members are on one side of the decision ‘blaming the boy to be a murderer’ and one member on the other side contemplating- “there is no significant proof against the victim”

The case against the boy, in starting, looks irrefutable and indomitable, as there is a witness in the form of an old man who claims to have heard the incident and another woman who claims to have seen the actual act of stabbing. Plus there is the murder weapon - a knife - that was found at the crime scene, seemingly implicating the boy without any fragment of doubt. But all is not what it seems like.

This “Mujhe kuch pata nahi lekin……Maan lijiye ham galat hue to” attitude of this one person begins the discussion forward for bringing in the common consent.

Since the jurors have no link with anybody and anything involved in the case, they are called on for the verdict on the grounds. They are instructed to remain in an enclosed room until they reach on a consent- deciding if the accused boy is guilty or not.

I strongly recommend all to watch this movie keeping in mind

Reference to the role of group processes and process facilitation in making team an effective medium of change: Overall we can first realize after seeing the movie that the following points were illustrated

1.      Planning of strategy by the initiator about case discussion

2.       Implementing the strategy by the person who was handling and controlling G.D

3.      Dissatisfaction of one person leads him to convince the other team

·         Effective medium of bringing change in people mindset – Give chance to all and introspect all the reflections, positive conflict environment, having faith in team, learn from others and communicate in their terms, share other people’s experiences- concerns, difficulties and hopes

·         The lead character is under significant pressure from his fellow jurors, but he is determined to explore all of the evidence before he reaches a conclusion. It shows how the courage of convictions can make one win the odds

·         Timely decisions - Important decisions should be given time - In the movie, a boy’s life is in the balance – if found guilty, he will be executed. Lead character wants to talk things through, not to rush to a snap

·         Composure, Clarity and Focus approach even in the midst of all of the emotions can give rise to the rationale decision making skills

·         Art of influencing others - Protagonist builds alliances – often by the force of his arguments, sometimes by listening to the others

·         Benefit of accepting uncertainty - I appreciate most the way he (lead character) acknowledges his own uncertainty. He can’t be sure if the boy is guilty or not, he demonstrates his principled approach, but not a dogmatic one

·         As a result, they achieved a transition from communication to conflict management despite of different people, different background, different profession, Different age group and most importantly different mindsets

·         I learnt building good relationships can be a good strategy before conflict occurs. We should respect individuals and respect differences for a win-win situation

·         It is very important for a leader to LISTEN. Unless one will not listen to other, it is difficult to understand the theme of the going discussion. “Jaisa Desh, Waisa bhais” it is important to adapt to different situations as per the people around.

·         Focus should always be on solving problem and not people. Else one can just be pankaj Kapoor personality in real life.

·         Many a times, it is better to think about TODAY, Present, here and now. It saves on time and stays us focus for achieving the results.
